The day after arriving back from vacation made us want to do only a few things. Play in the water, have a cocktail and avoid all house hold responsibilites. Alas, we woke up – paid bills, responded to emails, did yard work, folded tons of laundry all before 11:00 – all while balancing the 3 boys. Walking in the door yesterday after being away for so long made my heart skip a beat. Oh, I missed home. Without a doubt I am a home body at heart. I think the boys all felt that same sigh of relief to see their beds again and the familiarities that are home.
And then this morning we got wrapped up in all of our obligations – the ones that go out the window on vacation. The reason why vacation is oh so relaxing. By noon we knew we had to switch it up, we could not let ourselves hit a wall right away. By noon we decided to run our errands and get our butts home asap to let the kiddos run in the sprinkle and jump back into the fun. After all, summer break is over in 10 days and this sweet summer is coming to a close.
Taking a nice long vacation reminded Dan and I of the importance to shake things up. We get so caught up in our house, our schedules and our days seem to be so repetitive. Eh, it gets old. With Dan busting butt at work, and straight to school work most nights our family time is limited. By gosh, thank OBX for reminding us just how much we need to stop the clock and focus on what really matters. These crazy kids, and putting the fun back into our basic day to day.
With a kindergartner, and a second grader – I know our mornings are going to be hectic. Even more so with a new(ish) baby. I will be working hard this week at organizing much of our house and coming up with ideas to keep the morning and evening flow easier. I’ll be sharing those ideas with you soon mommas out there!
Thank goodness for these kids to constantly remind Dan and I to take a step back and enjoy the day.
For now the suitcases are still full of clothes, our dining room table is packed with odd ends we unloaded from the car. We ordered in dinner tonight after grocery shopping, and ya know what – tomorrow we’re going to take some time to visit GiGi (my mom) and ignore the house for another day.
Yes, I’m flipping the bird to many things right now. And wrapping my arms around my kiddos as we approach a new school year that will essentially make them one year older.
Squeeze them while you can mommas – smooch those lips while they let ya.
