For those of you that have been here a while, you know that our yard was/is a massive undertaking. We’ve spent 2 years and thousands upon thousands of dollars to bring it to where it needs to be. Currently I sit with Max on my right fussing away, and a loud landscaping crew excavating our front and backyard out AGAIN to replant grass seed. We knew this was going to be done again, so we decided to jump start the process ourselves and get in touch with our favorite people @ Ryobi and discuss a potential collaboration for shaping up our disasterous front garden beds.
They were screaming for attention!
Dan and his buddy built a gorgeous retaining wall – but inside – nothing but dirt and weeds. It was time to address this space, and chose plants that will last over the years, providing the green contrast we were longing for to pop agaisnt the dark gray/blue of our house.
We knew we had to bring back our love for hydrangea at this house, here are a few of our inspiration pictures
Shopping for the plants was so much fun with the kids. They spent hours racing up and down the aisles, while Dan and I chatted away with the workers trying to figure out the best plants for our yard.
Boxwoods were top on our list – a shrub that will stay green throughout the year, can be shaped easily with the amazing Ryobi Hedgers The double play gold plants were a last minute choice, while they were pricey ($50 a pop) they offered the brighter green contrast, along with a darling pink bloom that will give the border a bit more color during the spring/summer months without having to plant flowers. (saves us $$ in the long run!)
The ground was ridiculously tough + packed with debris. We turned to the Ryobi Cultivator to turn over the soil and break everything up. We also had a blast using a much larger Pressure Washer to tackle our filthy sidewalk. We were in absolute outdoor tool heaven!
The pressure washer was unbelievable, and super addicting. Something about washing the filth off of something and seeing immediate results makes me want to do it all day, everyday.
Dan swept through the entire area with ease, it broke through the ground and turned fresh soil up for us to utilize.
This is a quick look at the surface area we had to fill with the new plants
The new plants put our curb appeal up 100 knotches! With the front yard being seeded today, I know that we officially have the look we have been aiming for since we moved in. Ryobi Outdoors always helps to make these outdoor projects so much easier and efficient!
Like all good things, these plants will take time to grow to the size we would prefer them to be. In the mean time we are watering them and treating them with extra TLC so we can have the full plush bushes we are longing for.
I love the contrast between the boxwoods + the double play gold shrubs.
I adore this retaining wall, and now with the plants nesting inside – it really pulls our front yard together.
The tools we used and adore –
Pressure Washer :: String Trimmers :: Hedgers
With fathers day right around the bend, a few of these tools would be the ultimate power tool treat for the dad in your life!
