{ This is a sponsored post with Giani Countertops. We received our kit to transform our countertops. A huge thank you to Giani for this collaboration! }
Finally we get to share with you all what we have been up to the past few weeks and we could not be more excited to show you our new kitchen!
Remember what we had to work with?
When Giani Countertops wanted to collaborate with us providing a kit to help us resurface our countertops we could not resist! Giani provided us the tools we needed to achieve and completely change our infamous orange counters.
This is a painting process to resemble to look of granite – layers upon layers of a painting application, finishing with a sealer that provides your countertops with a gorgeous gloss. We chose to go for the marble look, not the granite look ( both achieved with different applications of the product ) and we could not be happier with the results! The best part? The entire process was so easy and completely fool-proof. I watched the videos a few times on their website + did everything all on my own!
You should follow Giani on their social media outlets too to see all of the transformations!
I did the entire kitchen by myself while Dan was at work over the course of two weeks and the countertops were the easiest and fastest part of all. We chose the white diamond kit to try something new, seeing as our old kitchen had black concrete countertops (again DIY). Everyone who comes over cannot believe these were resurfaced, everyone assumes we bought brand new countertops. I cannot rave enough about Giani Countertops… we are truly smitten with this product!
The cabinets were painted, hardware spray painted a glossy black and the walls even received a new coat of paint.
(I’ll update you all on the color choices we made later this week!)
Ready to see the before and after?!
Can you even handle it?! We chose to do a darker base for the bottom cabinets and white for the top to open up the space a bit more. It was SO dark and spooky before and the White Diamond Giani Countertops just pulled this entire vision together in the simplest most beautiful way ever!
It is amazing what you can do on a small (and I mean small) budget. Giani Countertop kits are only $79.95 – so to think you could completely transform your countertops for under $80 is just bananas! We got a quote for new laminate countertops to be installed and it was $1,000 – FOR LAMINATE AGAIN. This product really saved us and gave us exactly the look we were going for!
Of course my favorite pictures followed us from our old house and found their way to our kitchen. Farm life dreamin’
The sealer was the final step (2 coats) and gave the countertops the perfect shine to them.
We added our favorite DIY SHELVING again in our kitchen too. Decked out with my favorite cook books (seriously, My Drunk Kitchen is off the chain – I love Hannah Hart) and a few Holiday inspired items. I am loving having the salt and sugar in arms reach!
The entire space feels so much more open – the flow from room to room now is smooth as butter and this kitchen no longer stops you in your tracks for the wrong reasons! Minus the dishwasher – ha. Cannot wait to replace that.
Would you love to fix ugly countertops in your home? Kitchen or bathroom? Well well well, it is your lucky day!

I need help!
They look fabulous!
Most definitely. This first coat you put on is solid black. It will cover anything. Go for it…
I would absolute love to redo our kitchen countertops!! And cheap! This looks beautiful Abby!!
Omg Abby! I love it! Looks great! We like the white diamond kit! Went and liked them on FB. Crossing fingers we win 🙂
Hey Abby! I have been stalking your blog anxiously awaiting the kitchen transformation update since my husband and I are in the same boat of trying to update our very dated kitchen (think knotty pine cabinets + nasty yellow laminate. Its a real showstopper of a kitchen! Ha!) and have been researching different resurfacing kits, and I am positively blown away by Giani after seeing your pics! I’m also super inspired and encouraged after reading that you did it on your own since my hubby is balancing work and school so this stay at home mom is trying to tackle as many projects on my own as possible while my kiddo is napping. Much like you, we are trying to transform our dark kitchen into something beautiful and bright (inspirations: young house love and now….yours! 🙂
We were initially thinking a darker finish for the countertops, but I am now obsessed with the white diamond finish after seeing your photos! Your kitchen is simply beautiful and I am enjoying seeing the transformation of each room of your home!
Sounds beautiful Lindsey! I am so glad you read our blog! Best of luck!
Sicilian sand all the way! I am going to buy it even if I don’t win it. Kitchen needs updating.
Would LOVE to win the White Diamond Kit!
My husband has been out of work for months, this would be the Christmas Gift we can’t afford to buy.
Thanks for the opportunity 🙂
Merry Christmas!
I would definitely use the Sicilian sand kit! I currently have royal blue counter tops with white cabinets in the kitchen. Giani Granite kit will help brighten the room and bring it all together!

You’re kitchen looks fantastic! I am so inspired to start my own redo. I want to do the Titanium infusion for the cabinets and Bombay Black for the countertops. Would be great to win! Thanks
Would do a lite granite to come close to the glass backslash we have done.
Great work on the kitchen renovation! I like the White Diamond kit also!
Absolutely amazing transformation. You go girl!
I would use white diamond to brighten up my kitchen.
That looks gorgeous! I’d like to try the natural stone look on my kitchen countertops. To begin, I’d use White Diamond, then buy other colors to add into it. Winning one would be great and help curb costs a bit. I LOVE DIY. I do a lot of it around the house 🙂
Great looking kitchen!
So gorgeous! I would choose the white diamond or the Bombay black!
I love the pictures of the kitchen. I have been wanting to do this for several years. I keep researching all the different websites to see the different colors and techniques. I have decided on one color that being the silican sand. I would really like to know how they have held up a few years after being done.
Looks great! I’m really hoping to use the countertop kit in my new home! It came with GREEN countertops and they have GOT to go!
Amazing!! I want to use the chocolate brown kit in my kitchen. I love the lighter colors in yours– looks so great!
It’s a hard decision between Sicilian Sand and the White Diamond!!! I love them both but I would love to see the White Diamond in my near-future home!! It’s a classic clean modern look!! Absolutely amazed by this concept!!
Love it! I would use Sicilian Sand on our countertops.

I would like the white diamond kit to use in my bathroom and also on a few shelves 🙂

Michele! This comment cracked me up — yes, those cabinets are surely special aren’t they? 🙂 Goodluck! Sicilian Sand is a gorgeous choice!
I am SO ready to do this!! I have been waffling between the Sicilian Sand and the Quartz…..once I make my final decision on the cabinet paint, I’ll bet set! Cannot wait to try this!

Goodluck Stephanie!

We love it too!
White Diamond!!!
🙂 Goodluck!
This looks great, and the layout is exactly like my kitchen. I would love to do my kitchen with the chocolate brown. I have exactly the same cabinets too! I had already “liked” them on facebook, which is where I saw this article!
Thank you Sandra! Our kitchen layout feels so much better now with this transformation!
What a beautiful Transformation 🙂 I would do the Silican Sand if I won
Thanks Barb! It was SO easy to do!
That looks awesome! I have been watching and wanting this kit for ages and would love the Chocolate Brown to transform my kitchen from ho hum white countops and maple cabinets…to a warm southwestern feel with some paint on the walls and that stark white countertop transformed to warm and inviting Chocolate Brown!
Sounds awesome Dawn! Goodluck!
I would love to use the Giani White Diamond kit in our master bathroom. Currently it has a very yellowed and ugly builder grade countertop/sink combo, and I would love to give it a fresh new marble-look similar to your fabulous kitchen counter makeover.
Thank you Tracy! I would love to use this in our bathrooms as well and have a feeling we will soon!
Your transformation is so beautiful! I would love to use Sicilian Sand on my countertops to update them!
Thank you Carolyn!
Thank you Carolyn! They are just as amazing in person too!
I would choose the Bombay black for my second time around. I LOVE Giani Granite and the results you get for little money!! They are the BEST!!!
The Bombay Black is a gorgeous choice!
Agreed! Loving our results!
Wow! Simply stunning, absolutely stunning.
Thank you Shayla!
Thank you!
Your kitchen layout looks almost exactly like mine!! Now I REALLY want to do the open shelving just like yours!! I think I would choose the white diamond kit for my kitchen also. Thank you!!
Thank you! I love the open shelving too! My cookbooks are now no longer shoved in our coffee table 🙂
Thank you!
I am amazed at the whole transformation. It looks fantastic! Crisp and clean.
The shine on the countertops is amazing. Giani is not only a revolutionary product, it is an money and time saver too!
Awesome!
Thank you Cathy! We love it too!
I used Giani Granite on my kitchen countertops in our last house (covered up some really ugly hunter green formica!). It does a great job and is very durable. My new house has ugly countertops too and Giani would make such a big difference in the kitchen.
Hi Cathy! Yes, I have a feeling we will be using this in our bathrooms as well! SO much easier than replacing a countertop and the results were amazing!
Isn’t it funny how sometimes you just cannot get away from ugly countertops? Giani is the perfect solution!
I redid a lot of my small kitchen over the last year. It all looks good except I hate the new countertops. I just did laminate, but I want them gone. The color is all wrong. So, I’ve been eyeing these kits. Giani has a great pic if the sand color countertop on their Facebook page. That’s what is want to duplicate 🙂
Hi lauren! That’s exactly what we were going to do, replace them completely and I am SO glad we chose this route!
I would do my kitchen countertops with the chocolate kit..The results look amazing!!
Thanks Candace!
When we bought our villa 7 years ago, it had pink kitchen counters and I vowed it would be the first thing I would change. Well, 7 years later we are still living with them. I had looked into the Rustoleum refinishing kit, but it just looked too messy and complicated and I wasn’t sold on the finished product. After seeing the countertops refinished with the Giani kits and researching how easy it is to use, this is definitely the way to go. Since we have light wood cabinets and black appliances in our kitchen, I would love to do the countertops in Bombay black!
Hi Ann! I’ve done other countertop restoration kits and this by far was the easiest. And zero mess which is what I was looking for! I am truly hooked!
Sicilian Sand in my kitchen!
Goodluck Melody!
Chocolate brown..I would in the kitchen and bathroom!
Love that color Jeri!
I would like to try White Diamond for the bathrooms. We used Sicilian Brown
In the home we just sold and loved the results.
We are loving the results to Donna!
These look great! I have been wanting to do this. I just need to get the nerve up to do this since I am not artistic. How do they hold up to water and heat?
Hi Julie! Thank You! We are just at the two week threshold that you need to wait after the sealer to start using heavier items on the countertops. So far, fantastic! Of course we do not put direct heat on them, we’ve been using pot holders and water is just fine! We are loving their durability! Especially with two kids!
I am going to paint my cabinets a dark grey and want to use the white diamonds countertop paint. I would like to vein them to look like marble. A friend suggested using a feather instead of a brush. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks
Hi Julie! Honestly the brush worked great! You end up using the sponge provided to tap the paint and fade the line out – the more you tap the more it fades. I do know that they say to use particular tools for a reason – some other tools may leave lint and stuff sticking behind. I love grey cabinets though! Goodluck!
My husband and I just purchased a new home. It’s very outdated and would love to use the Giani granite in our kitchen. I would be beyond thrilled to win the kit in Silician Sand! 🙂
Ashley congrats on the new house! Best of luck!
I would pick Sicilian Sand and redo my big long bathroom counter. I REALLY want to do my kitchen, but it’s tile. Ugly pale yellow tile.
Hi Tina! I know the feeling, when a room is not one quick fix – but it’s worth it to start somewhere! 🙂
Your kitchen looks beautiful! I’ve been looking for the White Diamond kit for my bathroom
Thank you! We loved the white diamond kit!
What technique/techniques did you use to achieve a marble look on counters? I love the way they look!
I would like to win a kit for my mom. Her kitchen counters are a very dated and stained yellow pattern from the 60’s. They would look amazing with the green kit! I love how you did the marble look, it is amazing how many different looks you can get with s kit. I did my own counters in white diamond with a granite look and I love them. Great job!
So sweet! I’m loving all of the comments from people who want to use it for someone else. Really spreading the holiday cheer here!
love the white diamond for my kitchen
We LOVE ours!
White diamond to redo my kitchen countertops!
goodluck Marissa!
White diamond to redo my 70s style bathroom.
Goodluck Andrew!
I so love the shine on these counter tops! I have high definition in “slate” which turned out to look like a kind of dead blue/brown, just yucky. Now I know how to fix it! Thank you! I love love your kitchen makeover!
Awe thank you so much Kimberly!
i would like the Sapphire Blue kit for my kitchen! looks sooo pretty
Isn’t that pretty? Their color choices are really amazing! Goodluck Amy!
Those look great!! I would definitely use the diamond kit on our laminate “butcher block” counters in our 1985 kitchen!!!
Goodluck Brenna!!
I would like the Sicilian Sand kit for my kitchen countertops. I already used the Bombay Black to create a custom desk area for our computers in the family room. Love it!
Ooh! Sounds nice! Goodluck Melissa!
I’d use the White Diamond Kit in my kitchen and update my 1980s countertops!
Oh the 80’s – can always count on them for beautiful countertops …. NOT! 🙂
Your kitchen looks beautiful! I would really love to update my parents old kitchen countertops with your Sicilian giani granit kit. It would be the best thing ever I could do for them!
That sounds amazing Dalena! That is the first thing that came to mind when I finished ours, who else can I do these for? Way to go! Goodluck!
When we bought our home in 2004, the first thing I knew I would do was a kitchen remodel — I HATED the ugly sea foam green speckled Corian counters! Fast forward 10 years and guess what has taken a back burner to life… my kitchen remodel 🙁
Well, Giani gives me renewed hope that I will have the kitchen of my dreams without the HUGE price tag. We just had to replace all our appliances, which were 10-15 years old and dying, and the new, beautiful stainless steel French door fridge, wall oven, wall microwave/convection oven, and dishwasher will be delivered next week! I am so excited! Because my kitchen has a massive amount of counter space, including a built-in desk, and I want to get quite creative using many different painting techniques with the Giani system to achieve the look of natural, flowing stone (veining, water, sponging using bags, etc.), I will first be tackling the cultured marble counter top in one of our small bathrooms. Eventually, I plan on doing the counters and cabinets in all 4 bathrooms as well as the cabinets in the laundry room and hallway (using the NuVo system). I am not exactly sure which granite counter color kit I am going to use in my kitchen yet, but I am thinking it will most likely be the chocolate brown with some extra colors from other kits added in…. stayed tuned!!! Eek 🙂
Sounds so exciting Dawn! Send me before and afters if you’d like! Always love to see them! thethomehome@gmail.com
Goodluck!
I would love the Sicilian Sand in my kitchen!!!
Goodluck Penny!
I love it! I would go for the white diamond in my kitchen! Right now we have the faux wood laminate that has several faded spots on it. We just finished painting our cabinets, so the countertop is next!
That would be the perfect next step! Goodluck Brittanie!
I love your results! I have had my eye on Giani for a while. I would use sicilian sand and coconut espresso.

I would chose Sicilian sand and use it in my bathroom!
Goodluck Katie!
Would love to do my old kitchen counters!!

You did a great job with your kitchen makeover. It is beautiful. I love Giani products!
Thanks Sondra! I can actually say it was EASY! Which feels so good to say because so many DIY projects are not – Giani rocks!
I would definitely love to use it on my 20 year old laminate countertops in my bathroom and I would love to use the Chocolate Brown kit with a cream based cabinet, I think it would really make the countertops pop 🙂
Hi Jeannie! That sounds beautiful!
WOW!! Your kitchen transformation turned out B-E-A-UTIFUL!! And how fabulous just in time for the holidays too!! I am absolutely loving all the transformations I am seeing on Giani’s Facebook page. Which is how I came across your blog. If I were to win the kit in your giveaway I would finally get up the courage to both bathrooms in our home. I would LOVE to get my hands on the White Diamond kit.
Thank you so much Laina! That is so sweet! Best of luck! Keep checking in 🙂
I’d like to use the black Bombay in my bathroom. I’ve already used it in my kitchen and love it!
Hi Cayla! I’d love to see pictures! Send um’ my way @ thethomehome@gmail.com

I’ve been considering using Giani countertop finish for awhile now. I love the marble options. I’m a little nervous about doing it myself but would love to try! Your kitchen looks great!
Thanks Diane! It is SO simple! That is all I kept telling my husband Dan. “This is fool proof!” “Why didn’t we do this right when we moved in?”
I am so confident that I can make a big difference in my kitchen with the chocolate brown Giani countertop kit. I have the oldest plain white countertops that are crying out for a change!!
I want to Paint my kitchen counters.Money is extremely tight right now and this would be a doable Upgrade!
Yes! The majority of our updates are pocket friendly upgrades!
Don’t know what I was thinking all those many long years ago but I would love to change those ugly ORANGE kitchen countertops to Giani White Diamond. It wouldn’t hurt to transform those cabinets to Giani Titanium Infusion or Abstract Ash.
Thanx for the opportunity to change my kitchen.
You’re welcome! Best of luck!
Love Giani Granite! We plan to do our marble master bath counter tops, but hope to be selected for this to give a kit to our brother in law to re-do his new kitchen! 🙂
That would be so nice to do anette!
Your kitchen looks fantastic! Love how bright and airy it looks now! I would love to use the Sicilian Sand Giani Countertop Kit in our kitchen. We’re currently rocking some slightly cracked, pale yellowish, dingy countertops from 1964! We’ve started the painting process, but would love to complete the look. We’ve been taking lots of before and after photos along the way. Would love an after with new countertops! Lol!
Oh Katie that would be so nice! Goodluck!
Would love to use Sicilian sand to redo my 1960s yellow kitchen counter
Goodluck Steph!
Wow! You have inspired me, woman! I have a 1954 built house with a basic upgrade kitchen in 2005–all beige laminate cabs and breakfast nook with a honey wood trim. I need to freshen it up and this seems like a good solution. I guess if I win the prize I want the Sand Kit.Tell me: did you remove the kitchen sink or paint around it?
Hi Katy! Good question – we wanted to remove it ( I did concrete countertops at our first house and regretted not taking it out) well, long story short we ended up not doing it again and we laid painters tape across the edge and 1/4 inch onto the countertop as well, used a straight edge razor to slice off the excess and it covered the sink perfectly!! Honestly, the painting process was so easy, and it went straight to the base of the sink. I have very few spots of paint to scrape off! We were amazed!
We have HORRIBLE faux wood laminate countertops that are from the 1950s ( if not earlier!), if this works on these then I proclaim a miracle. Our cabinets are pretty darn awful as well, we painted them with regular paint 2 years ago and they are already not looking so hot…yuck.
Hi lauren! It would work amazing! It’s hard to have to keep retouching things for sure – our kiddos are always making a mess!
Great job! I’ve been keeping my eye on homeowner’s who have use the White Diamond kit (the color I want) and yours is the best treatment I’ve seen.
Thank you Karen! I loved the application process we did!
I have done my kitchen and master bathroom in the Chocolate Brown and have received so many compliments! I still have another large bathroom and a guest bath to do, would love to win a free kit! I’ve recommended Giani to many of my friends, it’s an awesome product!
Hi Michelle! That’s awesome! I feel the same way – spreading the word like nobody’s business 🙂
Kitchen looks great!!! Makes me antsy to do ours. Would love to modernize our 70s kitchen!! I would pick the white diamond kit. 🙂
Hi!! I love the kitchen redo! Makes me antsy to get mine done!! I have a very 70s kitchen. I would choose the diamond white kit and do the marble look. It just looked so great in your kitchen!!
Thank you! We love it! Goodluck Mallory!
i absolutely love the finished result!!!! what a huge difference! i would love to redo my wonderfully salmon colored countertops in the sicilian sand!!!
Hi! What a huge difference. I would use the white diamond kit to update the kitchen in our new house. My wife would be thrilled.
I would LOVE to use the white diamond kit to update our kitchen. Thank you so much for testing it out and giving us the chance to try it ourselves. Beautiful results!
This is an AMAZING transformation! You did a great job. I love all paint colors you picked and I’m wondering if you could tell me the color you used on the walls and lower cabinets. Thank you!
I desperately need to update our kitchen counter tops. They are currently a greenish-blue with white splatter marks. They are laminate and look like some from the 70’s. This is how they were when we bought the house 10 years ago. We simply cannot afford new counter tops. PLEASE, PLEASE, consider me for the FREE Giani Countertop Paint Kit! I would be happy to post before, during and after photos. ☺
Hello Sharon! I am so sorry, but the contest ended months and months ago. We love Giani and keep checking back to see if we do another giveaway!
xoxo abby
The counter tops look great!!! If the dishwasher still works well then don’t replace it just recover it. You can make the dishwasher stainless still look with the stainless still contact paper that is out now and they have black paint to do on the rest of the white. This would give the stainless still/black look. Or paint the front with chalkboard paint and the other white parts shinny black. Then you can write if the dishes have been washed or a grocery list or any thing.
